Warscribe ("Warscribe", "we", "us") makes free companion apps for tabletop Warhammer games: army list builders and live battle trackers for Age of Sigmar, Warhammer 40,000, Spearhead, The Old World and Path to Glory. We built them to be local-first: your data lives on your own device, you don't need an account, and there are no ads and no third-party trackers. This policy explains the small amount of data that does leave your device, and why.
Your army lists, settings and in-game tracking are stored locally on your device (in your browser's storage, or the app's local storage). This data stays on your device and is never sent anywhere unless you choose to use Cloud Sync (below). You can clear it at any time by clearing the app's or browser's storage.
We do not run any analytics, usage statistics or visit tracking. There is no third-party analytics script, no advertising ID, no device fingerprint and no telemetry about which armies or units you use. Error reports (below) are not analytics: they say what broke, not who you are or what you play.
When something goes wrong in the app, it sends us a short error report so we can fix it. This is on by default, and you can switch it off in Settings, About, where "What is sent" shows you a real example. A report contains:
A report never contains your list names, unit choices or any list's text, your or your opponent's names, your device or sync identifier, or anything that links two reports to the same person. We never store IP addresses with reports, nor your location or time zone. The same error from many devices is kept as one entry with a count, for 90 days after it was last seen.
Cloud Sync is off by default. If you turn it on, your saved lists, your finished games and your settings are stored on our servers so you can sync them across your devices; a game you are in the middle of stays on the device you are playing it on. To do this we use:
We do not require or collect your name, email address or a password for sync. You can stop syncing at any time by turning Cloud Sync off. You can delete everything your account holds from Settings, Sync, "Delete my synced data", or by emailing the address below. An account that no device has synced for two years is deleted. When you delete a list, a small marker that it was deleted is kept for 30 days so your other devices hear about it, then removed.
The apps set one cookie, on warscribe.app only: your anonymous device token, so that one phone counts as one device for Cloud Sync across Warscribe's games. It is not used to track you and is never shared. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing else to tell you about.
To get an opponent's list onto your phone from theirs, the app opens a short-lived "drop" on our server. The text of that one list passes through it for at most 15 minutes and is deleted the moment your phone collects it. There is no account and nothing else is kept.
If you share a game between two phones, each change to the game passes through our server so the other phone shows it. The game's log is kept until a day after its last change, then deleted. No account is needed; the only names involved are the two you give for the game.
If you choose to send feedback or a bug report from inside an app, we receive the message you write, any screenshots you choose to attach, and the same technical details as an error report (above), which the app shows you before you send. Your list is included only if you tick "Include my list". Older versions of our apps also include your approximate region (country).
Your report becomes a public issue on our feedback tracker (hosted on GitHub), so that you and others can follow it; the app gives you its link. Please don't include personal information you don't want to be public.
Our sites, apps and sync service are hosted on Cloudflare (including a Cloudflare database for Cloud Sync), and feedback is stored on GitHub. As is standard for any website, our hosting provider may briefly process technical request data such as IP addresses for security and reliability; we do not use this to identify you or build a profile, and we do not sell or share your data with advertisers.
Warscribe is a general-audience tool for tabletop gamers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Because the apps are local-first and we don't hold an account for you, the simplest controls are in your hands: clear local data on your device, turn Cloud Sync on or off, delete your synced data from Settings, and switch error reports off. For data held by Cloud Sync or in feedback, you can also ask us to access or delete it by contacting us, and we'll do our best to help. See Delete your data for step-by-step instructions.
We may update this policy as the apps evolve. We'll change the "last updated" date above when we do, and significant changes will be reflected here.
